After buying, both parties must sign the registration transfer form. In most states you have 14 days to lodge it, otherwise you may face penalties. Make copies of ID, the contract and the PPSR certificate. If the seller fails to lodge their notice of disposal, you could receive their traffic fines. Do it online where possible and keep confirmation receipts. When buying interstate, check for additional inspections required before you can register the vehicle in your state.
