Hidden Flood Damage: Spotting the Signs

Don’t buy a car that’s been swimming. Here’s how to tell.

Flood‑damaged cars are often dried out and sold interstate. Look for silt under carpets, rust in unusual places (seat rails, screws under the dash), foggy headlights, new upholstery in an otherwise worn interior. A musty smell is a giveaway. Check the service book for sudden interstate transfers around major flood events. If the PPSR shows a write‑off and the seller is vague, steer clear.
